THE FUNDS AVAILABLE

TOTAL.;OF £44,228.

The total available funds of the Wellington War Relief Association as at 30th June, 1922, amounted to £44,228 8s 7d. These were made up as .follow:—lnvestments, £41,500; current accounts, £2698 8s 7d; ; petty cash, £30. Shirtcliffe. >' ."■■•". ■ ••... .' , ' The report of the Finance Committee for the past month stated that thirteen cases, each involving a sum exceeding £50, were ■ dealt-;with. All the .cases— with the • exception of five—had been previously dealt, with by tlie committee, i and two of them were'twice reconsidered. Of, the remaining six cases, one was in reference, to a letter received from a soldier settler, Tiraumea Estate (the subject' matter of his correspondence was satisfactorily attended to for him); two; were1 dealt with in respect'of the unpaid, balances on loans awarded soldier settlers; two were similarly considered in connectiion.with residential property,'; and the other had reference to the.-dis-posal- under first mortgage to the State Advances Office, and. second mortgage to the' association, ■ of, a house acquired by the association during the soldier's absence in Europe. ■ There \. were five.: newi applications—one /for agricultural pursiiits /(£150) and fonr for residential property (£565). 'An advance of £150 was approved to assist a disabled soldier to establish '..himself,' after training" by the Repatria,tionlDepartrherit, as a poultry farmer; two applications-—which disclosed neither physical impairment. nor economic, loss-—were.;: declined "(residential property £365),' and 'two other. requests for assistance.to acquire, houses,, .were favourably, considered. (£293:. 10s).' Apart from these ■cases, fotjir .others— ■» in whidi, there- existed, no war: disability —were declined by the Applications Committee without referencei|to:tne Finance Committee. , j They amounted to ,• £1720 (residential, property1 £1120, and establishment of !an' apartment house £600).
