Messrs. W. H. Hennah and W. H. WorfcK, J.P.s, presided at. the Magistrate's Court yesteVday. Henry Newell, alias Asbiord, charged with committing a breach of his probation order, was remanded until to-day. Hercules Andrew .Turnbull, alias Andrew Rutherford, alias Andy Nicholls, alias H. J. Eengrove, alias J. Thompson, was remanded uricil the 19th inst., on a charge of stealing on 30th June a quantity' of fancy goods, valued at £1 17s Bd, the property of Arthur Boss. There were also other charges of a similar nature, and a charge of obtaining £10 by 'means of a valueless cheque at Dunedln.

Andrew Ernest Neilson, on several charges of forging cheques aY Wellington, was remanded until to-day. The amount involved was something over £60.

Horace John Anderson, charged with breaking and entering the premises of Albert Payton afc Christchurch on or about the 19th June, and stealing jewel--le-ry to the value of £20, was remanded to appear at Christchurch to-day. ; Richard Noel Balcher Brrkin, an elderly man, was charged with false pretences, that on or about 12th June at Wellington, he did obtain from Charles Priestly the sum of £5 by means of a certain false pretence, to_ wit, that one Frank Holdsworth, solicitor, was in possession of a cable from England authorising him. to pay the accused the sum of £150,. with fraudulent intent. On the application of Deteotive Lewis, who said that several other charges against the accused were being_ investigated, Birkin, was remanded1 -until the 19th. inst.

BYLAW CASES.

Before Messrs. J. W. Ellison, H. B. Bridge, and G. Anyon., J.P.s, the ■' following military defaulters were fined for failure to attend drill: —David Weir M'Alees £1, costs 7s; Jeremiah Anthony Thomas Purcell £3, costs 7s; James Campbell 10s, costs 7s; Thomas James M'Millan £3, costs 7«.

George Barr, driver of a motor-car, was fined 10s for passing a stationarf tram. Thomas E. Hill, motor-cyclist, was fined 10s and 7s costs for a breach of the rules of the road. William George Wonnocott was fined 10s and 7s costs for having no' light on his vehicle. HerbeH Mi#c Hayman was fined £2 and £1' 17s costs for passing a stationary tram. William E. Willis, for failing to register a motor-car, was fined £1, costs 7s. The Dominion Proprietary Company, Ltd., was fined £5, 7s costs, for storing dangerous goods. Sydney Jackson, for failing to carry out sanitary repairs properly, was fined 10s, costs 7s. Edward Pointon was fined 10s, costs 19s, as'the owner of. an unregistered dog. For allowing stock to wander, Sarah Archibald, William Hodges, Frank Kettlewell, and Paul Olsen were . each fined £1; Charles Free £3; James Hannelon, Staru ley Howard, and Lalvmgton, M'Williams, each- 10s; Louis Nairn and Thomas Dick, ss, costs 7s, in each case. ■ •: ■.
