The Manchester Guardian, in an editorial, says that Patterson', an athlete who is worthy to rank with Brookes and Wilding, has carried off the tennis dhampionship, and none, except an American or two, could deprave him of it. "Is any forcing method for produc- | ing an English ahampion feasible? We might abandon cricket, which is not played in America; but most, people would sooner see a score of tennis championships go West. The only helpful thing will be to build more hard court-, so that people could play in winter."
