ARTILLERY BAND'S CONCERT
The concert given by the Artillery Band at His- Majesty Theatre last night attracted a large and enthusiastic audience. The bands, under tho skilful conductorship of Lieut. T. Herd, played with great brilliancy and good tonal blend Hermann t overture "L'Espoir De L'Alsace," and tho "Reminiscences of Webor'.' (arranged by Bulch) was given a scholarly interpretation by tho conductor, and lie wan splendidly supported by the band. Tho chnnning cornet solo "Idol of My Heart" (Slahl) was rendered with good taste and feo'ing by Sergt. W H. Bowman, with,a nicely subdued accompaniment by the built', which also gave in a brilliant manner (Marie's Slow March "Solferino." Miss Myra Sawyer, soprano, who has a nice flexible voice, sang with excellent effect, tho trill being particularly! good, "Sing Sweet Bird" (Ganz) and "Crossing the Bar" (Willeby), 'and was recalled foi each number. Mr. Sid Allwright, baritone, sang "The Glory of the Sea" (Sanderson), and was recalled. The Melody i'*our (quartette), Messrs. Lewis, Blandford, Allwright, and Laycock, sang with »scel: «hii effect und nice balance, "Kentucky Bnl'.e" (Bishop) and "The Old Brigado" (But-toiil, and had to respond to well-merited encores. Mr. M. T. Dixori was an o!Hci'i:it accompanist. ' :
