ANTI-BRITISH AGITATION
OMPAID POLICE THREATEN TO ■ STRIKE.

A Teheran cable message states that in consequence of the •continuance of. libellous attacks in the local press against the British Legation and the. British policy, the Persian Government intends shortly to submit to the Mejliss (Parliament) a Press Act forbidding the publication of such scandalous attacks. Two newspapers were suspended on Tuesday, and the* Premier suppressed an objectionable anti-British article in another newspaper on Wednesday. The- police have sent,: a petition to Parliament, drawing attention to the fact that salaries have not been paid for several months, and threatening to strike if the salaries are not forthcoming within ten days. The petition adds that the police Will remain on strike until the salaries are paid and arrangements are made for regular payment in future.
