A TERRIBLE SCENE
FIREWORKS' DISASTER AT LISBON. (Received Juno 22, 2 p.m.) LISBON, 21st June. Tragedy terminated a great spectacle arranged at Lisbon to mark the Completion of the Portuguese Atlantic flight. A largo lighter loaded with fireworks was towed into the middle of the River Tagus, so as to be visible throughout the city. Rockets were fired to signal tho 'commencement of the display, and one fell on the deck of tho lighter, and caused an awful explosion. The sutvivors leapt into tho water as the lighter sank. Thousands ashore watched the terrible scene. It is believed that twenty were killed and forty injured.
