A brief story of "great expectations" and of a.n unpleasant surprise was told: by Mr. Irwin in a case that was mentioned in the Dunedin Police Court on> Monday (states the Otago Daily Tinies) Mr. Irwin stated that the defendant in the case referred to was Tesident iv tho North. Island, and that he .saw an a*ivertisement in the newspapers asking that- he should, communicate with ar Dunediin firm of solicitors.' With visions of "beating something to his advantage," lie wasted no time in getting into communication, with the inquirers by means of the telegraph. Has surprise was doubtless great when ho foundl that ho was wanted in connection with a maintenance order.
