PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
Mr. F. Meadowcroft presided over the fortnightly committee meeting of' the Society for tho PreVention of Cruelty to Animals, which was held at the secretary's office, and was attended, by, .Mrs. Seville, Miss Richardson, Messrs. Chaffey, Watson, and Carvossd. It was reported by the inspector that eight cases of alleged cruelty to animals had been reported to him since the previous meeting, rbut fortunately none were of a very serious nature. Minor injuries to horses had been attended to, and in one case the destruction of ah old horse, which was past work, had been ordered. In two cases in which cruelty to dog* was alleged, investigation had proved that the report was unfounded. The collections since the last meeting amounted to £113 Is, and included one guinea each from Messrs. Levin and Co., Mri T. E. Corkhill, Mrs. Caplin, and £1 from Mrs. P. Palliser.
