PALMERSTON NORTH UNITED FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' DISPENSARY. 71 Cuba-street.

Established for seven and' fa-half years, the abflye institution well justified its inception,. Mr. H. Bishop, the dispensary manager, is, certainly the right man in the right place, and he. is'ably assisted in the control of affairs by Bro. iS. J. Watson, tho secretary, and the following board of management:—Bros. J. Ax, jvm. (president), F. H. Outram (vicepresident), F.J. Oakley. J. W. Hinchey, P. Smillio, J. S. Munro, W. F. Cutler, F. Pycroft, H. Sharman, R. U. Guy," J. Aiteheson, J. Rosanaski, and .0. 0. Oman. These gentlemen represent the various friendly societies in Palmerston, who have' an attached membership of 973. The dispensary has proved a ( great boon to lodge members. The board has made concessions to members, totalling £172 for the. year.. These concessions consist of free patent medicines, in prescriptions, £132 10s; extra, cost to the dispensary of eight dozen bottles, £7 10s; cash coupons redeemed, £32. These coupons were not all. issued during the past year, but a, very lasge proportion, of them had been issued in ■previous years, and were only presented for pay-i ment during last year. When members ■bear lin mind that they have received these benefits, and that only two other dispensaries in New Zealand charge a subscription as low as their dispensary, namely, 5s per annum 'per member, they should realise that they' are members of a dispensary that is out to give them the best results that are achievable, and the. board impresses upon them that by giving their support to Hhe dispensary they are increasing their own business and making it possible for greater benefits to be derived by them. It should. also be borne in mind that, although the profits for the previous years have been larger than those for the past year, it is only during the last two years that the concessions of free patent medicines in prescriptions has been made to members, and this naturally has made the profits look less than formerly. Tho profit and loss account shows a credit of £1463, out of which a 5 per cent, dividend was paid to shareholders, and the value of stocks on hand amount to £1619—a truly wonderful performance for the popular Cubastreet business. Physicians* prescriptions and homo recipes are dispensed accurately, with the best drugs.
