PERMITS FOR DRINKERS
(Received June 19, 1 p.m.) PERTH, Tlris'Day. -Archbishop Riiey, giving evidence before the Licensing Commission, said that the liquor trade should not be unduly taxed. He was perfectly amazed by the anonymous letters ho had received from temperance reformers advising him to "go to hel! and hear the shrieks of the damned" because he refused to.support Prohibition. Ho suggested that those who desired drink should 6ecure a permit and pay £1 per annum for it.
