SHOCKS PURELY LOCAL
'A message received by Dr. Adams, ■Government seismologist, was to the effect that tho earthquakes at Oruanui yesterday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. were exceptionally severe. .At 10 p.m. they cased off considerably. Dr. Adams agreed that it was possible that the cracks which had occurred on tile surface of the ground would case the situation.
Dr. Adams stated that the big shock which occurred at Taupo on 10th June was clearly recorded by the seismograph in Wellington. • As the plates had not been developed he could not say whether the.more recent severe 'shocks had been recorded in Wellington. The shocks ap■peared to be quite local. Earthquakes were recorded in the South on 14th June, and; the! Northern disturbance might have bad: something to do witk it.
