BOWLING
NEWTOWN CLUB
The anual report of the directors of the Newtown Bowling Club states that the membership must be increased if a satisfactory financial position is to be maintained. The club should, aim at a minimum membership of 100. It is regretted that more members did not take part in the club competitions. The success of the club's representatives in open tournaments is recorded. J. M. Brackenrid'ge won the centre singles championship, and Messrs. Hunt and J. Sexton (s) were runners-np- in the -champion pairs. The champion, rink did not get very far in the rinks contest. Newtown also won the Pennant competition. The report states that Mr. Hall-Smith has continued to give much satisfaction in the way he ■has kept the green and ite surroundings. Unfortunately the green itself has not given the best of results, but every effort has been, and will continue to be, made to improve the surface for the coming season. Thanks to the usual small but enthusiastic number of workers the green supports have been renewed, and a large amount of good work done in various directions. The social room continues to give a great deal of pleasure to members. The thanks of memT>rr3 are due to those ladies who hav> assisted with afternoon teas, etc., j&nng the season, and for other as2&£ance freely given. The directors wish to put on record their hearty thanks to all those ladies and gentlemen who have in any way assisted them in maintaining the club's nroperty, in 'entertaining- members and friends at various social functions in connection with the club's activities, and to the press for their continued interest and support of the game.
