HOSPITAL v, KARORI.

The ground was in splendid order at Porirua, and the high wind did not affect play to any extent, as the ground is well sheltered from southerlies1. The play was high class throughout, and of a much more even nature than the scores indicate. Karori kicked off, and were at once put on the defensive through a run by Lambert, on the left wing, who sent across a beautiful centre, which was headed over the bar by Dick. The latter a minute later got clean through the opposition, but his shot went wide. Hospital kept up a very strong attack, and only good play by Russell, Prince, and O'Connell, in goal, kept them out. Eton and M'lntyro were prominent for the visitors, but Auld stopped them when they were in a dangerous position. Karori .kept up the pressure, and some nice play by M'Millan ended in M'lntyre shooting wide. Another run, led by WiJkins, followed, but the Hospital defenders, particularly Auld, who played a great game throughout, were very sound. Hospital again gained an advantage, and three shots came from Paierson, Wright, ■ and Lambert, but they could not pass O'Connell. A period of .give and take' play followed, full of interest, but neither set of forwards could break through. At iast, Tyson sent Lambert away, and, after a fine run, he centred to Paterson, who scored a good goal. Hospital 1-0. The game was fast, and Wallis and Ferguson were busy keeping out Karori attacks. M'lntyre looked like scoring, but Thompson, who was playing, with great dash, gave a corner. A few minutes later Egerton was brought to his knees to save a hard drive froim Eton. At the other end O'Connell was severely tested by Dick, Auld, and Whitehouse, but half-time arrived shortly afterwards. The second spell was opened by Hospital attacking hotly, and the forwards, showing good combination, were only' kept out by the strong defence, Prince playing a fine, heady game. Eton relieved the -pressure by making a good solo effort, which was checked by Wallis. Auld again sent the | Hospital forwards away, and Dick tricked the backs and placed the ball in the net. Hospital 2-0. , Karori now made strenuous "efforts to break through, and Egerton was called on several times To save his goal. Thompson gave Karori a corner, and Ferguson was compelled to do the same a little later. Karori had hard luck on several occasions in not registering a score. A run by Wright removed play, and,- punting nicely infield, the visitors were again in difficulties, but Whitehonse missed by inches. Shortly afterwards Russell secured the ball and made a sensational run through the whole Hospital team, but his shot went astray. Eton then hit the crossbar with a stinging drive, and for a few minutes the Hospital' defence had a hot time. A quick change took place when Wright and Paterson made\a dash on the right viihs-, Thfl.latter sent,.in,,a lovely dropping shot, and Dick, following up fast, assisted with a. Karori back to make the score Hospital 3-0. The game con-' fumed! fast and interesting to the end, but no further score resulted.
