FOR RESIPENTIAD NURSERY

AN EXCELLENT MATINEE.

The Residential Nursery matinee on Saturday at the Grand Opera House (by permission of Mr. Bert Royle and the Vice-Regals' management) was a success in every way. . Members of the ViceRegals Company—Misses Meadows and Macoboy and- Messrs. Pat Hanna, Claude Dampier, and Bobbie Pearce— gave items which were a sheer delight. Mrs. Burt's orchestra provided the overture and entra'acte. The Piccaninny ballet by Miss Ngaire Dewsbury's pupils was neatly done, Irene Wilson as the soloist and Yvonne Fisher as the picaninny acquitting themselves creditably. Miss Sadie Brown's pupils essayed dance numbers, including solo work by Given Billows, little Joy Sutherland, and Valeric Binning, and a valse movement by Miss Brown herself. Of Miss Beere's pupils, Florence Heyworth,1 Dorothy Buck, Zelina Carroll, and Phyllis Oliver did some excellent terpischorean studies.' Yet another enjoyable item was the pirouette dance by Misses Beatrice Thwales, Jean Parlane, Betty Wills, Jean Guise, Moya Brown, and Phyllis Krebs, all pupils of Miss Doris Guise, whose studio was also represented by little Vera Houston, Joy Pense, Olive Hill, and Jean Dallas. Miss Carwell-Cooke's pupils executed a jester ballet in most effective costumes, those assisting being Nellie Burke, Esta Burney, Moira Walsh, Lottie Rastall, Winnio Maloney, and Rene Maloney. Mrs. Menard's pupils were heard in a character chorus, also Mrs. M'Cartie's pupils. The Scotch song of Master Winston M'Carthy was -much enjoyed. Mr. Fisher contributed a flute solo; Mr. Bell a ventriloquial turn: and Mr. Allan Fuller delighted everybody with his comedy work and Two comediettas wp.ro produced, one by Mrs. Menard's pupils and the other by Messrs. Lionel Inch and Norman Aitken, with Miss Pauline Shotlander. Mrs. Menard's pupils led the interval "community sing." Flowers and sweets were sold during the performance, and the nursery should benefit considerably from the entertainment.
