THEFT OF A HANDBAG
A young man named Francis Matthew Walsh, for whom Mr. J. O'Donoyan appeared, pleaded guilty at tho Magistrate's Court to-day to a charge of stealing a lady's handbag, Valued at £1 15s, and 6s in silver, from Cecily Wolfe. Chief Detective Kemp said Walsh had met the_ complainant and a Mr. and Mrs. King, and had gone up Willis-street. Mrs. Wolfe was taken ill, and Walsh was Riven the handbag to mind. Walsh had detained tho bag and had spent the money. Mr. O'Donovan said that if Walsh-had chosen to defend the action lie could probably have proved that1 there had been no guilty ■intent on bis part. After consulting tho Probation Offieor (Mi* T. P. Mills). Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., decided to admit Walsh to probation for a period of two years on strict terms.
