NEW MILK SCHEME
DELIVERY IN BOTTLES
POINTS TO BE REMEMBERED.
On Bth July next the vending of milk in Wellington by private companies will cease, and the City Council will take over the whole of the distribution. To this end great preparations are in hand at the milk station in Dixon-street, and the bottling plant, which has arrived from America, will probably be in position by the end of next weak. Billies and cans will not be of much use on. Sunday, 9th July, for on that day the milk will reach householders in bottles. Messrs. Crawley, Ridley, and Co., of Wellington, are making good progress with the work of constructing the new milk wagons, which are specially designed to carry the crates of bottles, and Mr. S. G. Cole, distribution manager, is busily engaged in organising the" bisiness of distribution. Fifty horses for drawing the milk wagons have been purchased, and the men who will deliver the bottles of milk will go through a rehearsal of their duties before 9th July. Until the arrival of metal coupons and a coupon-counting machine from England about the end of July, paper coupons will be used for paying for milk, and people will have to purchase supplies of these beforehand, as the milk department will be guided in its functions by the principle of "No coupon, no milk." Further particulars about the purchase of these coupons will be published later on. One important point in connection with Khe new distribution system is that the previous day's bottles must be washed clean before being put out for the milkman to collect the next morning. To ensure that the milk will be delivered in the same pure condition as when it leaves the milk station, the bottles will be sealed with a paper cap.
