(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) STOCKHOLM, 16th June.
Mr. Holroyd, of Manchester, addressing the Internationa' Cotton Conference, expressed the opinion that, in view of the precarious position of the world's cotton production, aIT cotton-using countries must make every effort to foster the extension of cotton-growing. He suggested propaganda work in South America and China, and the convening of an international conference representing cot-•ton-growing countries with a view to combating cotton pests.
BRISBANE, 16th June.
Mr. Thomas, of the British Cotton Growing Association, said there was a prospect of a wide extension of cottongrowing in Queensland, where there were at least fifty million acres capable of growing cotton suitable for Lancashire's needs; but there is some doubt whether an industry needing abundant and cheap labour could be maintained ia Australia.
