A FAMOUS CAPTAIN.
A famous Atlantic captain recently passed away in Cheshire in the person of Captain John Prilchard, ex-commo-dore- of the Cunard fleot. He was master of tho Campania when the first Marooni wireless apparatus was installed in her. Afi captain of tho Caronia, he took soundings of the new Ambrose Channel at tho entrance to New York Harbour, and. this channel was officially opened by him. Ho took the same vessel into tho inner harbour at Alexandria, a feat considered an impossibility by tho port authorities. His career commenced at the age of 13, as cabin boy in a. small coasting schooner sailing out of his native town of Carnarvon. During his career, he commanded no fewer than 14 big Cunarders.
