IGNORING THE TIME-TABLE
The-.waywardness of many of the comets adds much to the difficulty of preparing the year's programme of return visits, says an American ■ paper. This year's list numbers seven. Bat whether all, or any, of the returning comets will put in an appearance according to schedule, is more than astron-omers-themselves can say. One of the expected visitors, De Vice's comet, which allows a lapse of about seventyfive years between visits, was due last year, and its arrival is still being awaited. Another, Broixen's, has consistently defied the time-table on seven occasions, and may, it is thought, have como to grief between visits.
