Holderness being English and Caven Scotch gave the game an international aspect. Tha spectators were commendably impartial in their applause. Gaven was 1 up* at the ninth hole, and 2 at the twelfth in the first round. Holderness squared at the seventeenth, and won the eighteenth. He was 2 up at the first hole in the second round, won the third, lost the fourth, and squared at the eighth. HoMemees won the ninth and sixteenth, making him 2 up. Oaven won the seventeenth, and halved the eighteenth. ' 'Holderness is 32 years of age, is the son of Sir Thomas HolderneßS, and holds a Government appointment. He played for Oxford University, and now plays for Walton Hejdh. Caven is 29, and i& a bookkeeper in ato engineering works at Paisley. i
