MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held on Friday. Present: The Mayor.(Mr. F. H. Mather), Councillors C. Hartridge, T. H. Giles, T. W. Pilcher, C. A. Marquis, H. M'Gill, and H. W. Shortt.

The Mayor stated that the sub-commit-tee which had-been'.set.-up to collect information in regard to the laying down of hard tennis 'courts had not yet completed its inquiry. . The Hutt County: Council wrote notifying that it had no objection to the erection of a pound and stables at the tip in the vicinity of the Gollan's Valley-road. The matter, was left in the hands of the Mayor and Mr. Witty to arrange. ..

Mrs. Clara Baker notified her willingness to donate a small piece of land at the corner of Totara-street and Muritairoad for the purpose of straightening the road at the corner. It was decided to obtain a legal title to the land. A vote of thanks to Mrs. Baker was passed. An application from the Scottish Harriers' Club for tho use of the Recreation Ground on 3rd Juno for the purposes of holding sports and a picnic was referred to the general manager. The Department .of Internal Affairs granted permission to the council to purchasa a section adjoining tho Recreation Ground for £1000 under a two-years' tiniepaymenh scheme at 6i per cent. The Mayor stated that"' tho . Harbour Board had notified that it was preparing plans for the. ■proposed addition to Rona Bay Wharf, and the work would probajjly begin shortly.
