REGISTRATION OF DENTISTS
Steps are being:taken by the Minister of ■ Education to meet the requirements of the Dentists' Amendment Act of laet session, in regard to the examination of unregistered dentists, who have been engaged in dental: work for four years. The Act provides that two examinations are to be held—the first in 1922, and the second! in* 1923. The Minister of Education, who is' responsible for the first examination, has decided that applicants who satisfy the Education, Department that they have already, passed Standard yi. or'its equivalent shall be accepted as having fulfilled the.'requirements.of the Act. The senior inspector, of schools in e ( ich education districtYis to be. instructed to arrange for the examination of all candidates who do net (possess the necessary certificate of geperal attainment,' and this examination is to be;of the following nature : (a)' An examination in reading; (b) a written examination in composition, to include the writing of an essay and such practical exercises as bear most intimately on the writing, and speaking of correct English. No questions in formal grammar to; be set; (c) a test in dictation and spelling; (d) a written examination of a very general character in arithmetic, to include mental calculations,; the four rules, knowledge of the commonest tables of weights and measures; (c) a written examination in general elementary knowledge ,of geography and history.
