Mrs. Fred Furby gave a very enjoyable tea- on Thursday afternoon, at her residence, Kelbum, for Mrs. Sydney Cave, prior to her departure for Australia. Among those present were Mesdames Fuller, Beamish, Morpeth, Maudsley, Wilson, Clark; Anderson, and the Misses Martin and Rose. The wedding of Mr. Charles Haines, of Wellington, to Miss Maud.Eglin, of Roslyn, Dunedin, was solemnised at the pretty home of the" bride, when the- Rev. Charles Dallaston (formerly of Wellington) officiated. Mt. Walter Eglin (Wellington) gave the bride away, and her sister, Miss Agnee E^lin, was the bridesmaid. Mr. Albert Abbott was the best man. Mr. Haines has many friends in. Wellington who will wish him and his bride much happiness.

Dr. Agnes Bennett will lecture' on "Midwifery Nursing" at the Red Cross Rooms, Dixon-street next Tuesday anidi the following Tuesday evenings. Midwivesi and nurse 3 are cordially invited to attend the lectures, which are held under the auspices of the Department of Public Health. .

A wedding of interest to West Coasters took place on Friday last, at the Anglican Church, Khandallah, when Miss Dolly Greenland, daughter of Mr. C. N. Greenland, formerly secretary of the Westport Harbour Board, was married to Mr. Ferris Dale, second son of the late Mr. J. C. Dale, formerly Chief Postmaster at Westport. ,The service, which took place at 7 p.m., was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Hands. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful frock of grey -satin,, exquisitely tinted, and a becoming picture hat. She carried a shower bouquet, the colours of the flowers blending with her frock. Miss Ruby Dale, the bridesmaid, wore blue crepe de ching with black geoi'gette overdress han'cTsomely beaded. Mr. Lan Grace, of'Martinborough, was the best man. The ceremony was. attended only by the relatives of the bride and bridegroom, and the wedding party was afterwards entertained at the home of Mr. J. M. Daler Khandallah.

The annual meeting of the Karoriroad and Northland branch of the W.N.R. was held at the residence of the president,. Mrs. Murray Gardner. The annu&l repOTt was received and adopted. It was a gratifying one to all concerned. The .activities of the^year were enumerated. In addition to the gift afternoons, Mr. Loo Buckerid-ge had given a successful concert, and, later, Mrs. Gunn had organised a children's baaaav, which realised about £4. Thanks were given to the managers of the Kelbum Presbyterian Church for the use of the room.; also to Mrs. Porter (hon. organiser) for her trouble, courtesy, and infinite pains in keeping the branch in touch with the organisation (W.N.R.) which it has elected to help. Mrs. Murray Gard'nti' was re-elected president. Mrs. G. P. Williams is to take the place of Mts. Gardner during her absence in Auckland. Mrs. Snell was elected secretary and treasurer. The following were appointed to the committee :—Mesdames Linley Richardson; Coster, Johnstone, Salt, Hui-re.ll, Hood, F. Earto, Ooglan, J. O. Andersen, Gunn, and M'Gowan. At the close of the meeting, the president entertained members to afternoon tea.

Mrs. J. Henderson, president of the Women Prisoners' Welfare Group, has received a letter of appreciation of the group's.work from Mr. C. E. Matthews, Controller of Prisons. Mr. Matthews eulogised the work done, and thanked the donors of gramophone records and croquet set. Another letter, from Mr. J. C. Scanlon, expressed thanks for th« Christmas fare and entertainment given through the group.

Robertson Orr performaed the ceremony. Miss 8.. Ewart was chief "bridesmaid, and wore ivory crepe de chine and a picture hat with touches of pink. Little Elva Patten was in primrose Paris net, frilled kind edgeft witlT pale blue. Each carried pretty bouquets to match their frocks. Mr. C. Niolson, of Wellington, was the best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of Mrs. C. A. d© B. Brandon, George-street. Later Mr. and Mrs. Ewart left en route for Rotorua and Waitomo, the bride wearing a becoming frock" of navy blue, embroidered in silver, with a toque '.to match, and silver foi furs.

.Mrs. O. Richardson, the retiring captain, presided at the annual meeting of the Mirama-r Ladies' Golf Club, held in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. The l-eport of the year's activities was presented, and matters were shown to be in a very satisfactory condition, both financially and otherwise. The following officers were appointed for the year:—Captain, Mrs. F. C. Widdop, in the place of Mrs. C. Richardson ; hon. secretary, Miss Carter, in the place of Mrs. Martin (retiring); committee, Miss Withers, Miss ■ Wheeler, Miss yon Dadelszen. A very hearty vote of thanks and appreciation of her services to the club .was accorded Mrs. Martin, who has occupied the position of secretary for two years mid wag ij. member of the committee for three. With the object of improving the Ngaio School surroundings, the School Committee held a "Paddy's Market", on Saturday, and the sum of £80 was realised. Goods lwt sold on Saturday will be auctioned later. The market was opened by the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.), who congratulated the committee on the improvements that had already been effected. A well-attended and successful dance took place at the Town Hall last night, when the Ladies' Auxiliary and Girls' Branch of the Navy League entertained Commodore Hotham, C.M.G., and, the officers of H.M.S. Chatham. The hall was tastefully decorated with- many flags, large and small, while the stage was backed with white festooned with navy blue. Pot plants and jars of flowers were used effectively, and the sides of the hall under the g»Hery were curtained off into alcoves, furnished comfortably for non-dancers or sitting out. The entrance hall was handsomely draped with flags, while the Concert Chambers, where • supper was set out, was carpeted with, crimson baize and draped with flags. The tibles were' decorated with vases of asters in many shades, arranged with brown birch foliage.
