A REVIEW OF METALS

POSITION OF COPPEE AND TIN

(UMTiD *PSEBS -ASSOCIATION.—COMMOBT.)

(AMMAUAH • NEW MAIAMB CAILI ASSOCIATION.) , . LONDON, 4tW March. The metal markets generally show improved tone. The firmness in coppor is due to increasing- consumption' in America, and the good Continental demand. Both France and Germany are buying freely, and consumption appears to bo well abov<*i production. Substantial inroads are being madf into existing stocks, but production is likejy to in the near future. Some mines »re being reopened, and probably the increase in output will enable production to keep pace with consumption. The position of' tin is also favourable. The tinplate trade at Pittaburg is very good. The production for 1922 is expected to equal that of any year in the history of the industry. Therefore America, io likely to buy largely, but the Continent is very poor, and heavy accumulations in the Dutch East Indies and China are overhanging the market.'
