ELLA SHIELDS.
Ella Shields, the English male impressionist, commences a season at the Grand-Opera House next Monday. Miss Shields (according to the Australian critics) occupies the stage for fully 45' minutes, and .'during that time, she unfolds some of the rare gems from her extensive- repertoire. Her principal success has been that old favourite Johnny song entitled "Burlington Bertie of Bow." A Melbourne critic says : "To hear Miss Shields's rendering of this old time song makes one think it has never been heard before. . . Miss Shields possesses every gift suitable for the stage. Mr. Harry Musgrove, who is introducing Miss Shields to New Zealand, was ako responsible for the -recent visit of that well-known London comedian Wilkie Bard. _ Miss Shields's . chief assets are artistic temperament, strong personality, exquisite voice and a ladlike figure modestly controlled." Mr. Musgrove is sending over a strong company of imported vaudeville stars to support Miss Shields. The box plan for the season will open at the Bristol Piano Company next Thursday morning.
