NELSON, 4th March,

Perfect weather conditions prevailed for the concluding day of the Nelson Jockey Club's Meeting. ■ All the acceptors for the Trial Stakes were paraded. Believe was the popular pick, but let hor supporters down badly. She jumped out well, but quickly went back and finished Jast. Vogue, who drew the inside position, was also backed, but ran like a moderate. Stream was in a prominent position most of the way and won comfortably from Maropa, Eedsome and Jonquil. The Maitai Trot {in harness) brought out a field of eight. Mahene on the limit mark began well, and at the stand was leading Disappearance and Taivera. Hydaspas and Grey Thorpe made an effort to reach the leaders at x.no back, but the latter dropped back half a mile from home. Mahene was headed by Disappearance in the straight, and the latter won after a good'race. The winner comes from Canterbury. All started for the Redwood Memorial except Princess Pat, who' had an engagement later in the day. Matatua jumped, out smartly, and quickly established a three-lengths lead. Waimatoa also showed out after they had gone a couple of furlongs, but was slightly sore , afd could not go on. Matatua was leading Sir Rosebery arid Esperance at the bend. Esperance got in front half way down and won handily from American Beauty, who was unlucky enough to act as. runner-up each day. Matatua struggled on into third place. .Missland and Zela were taken out .of the Tahuna Hack Welter, leaving in nine runners. The two brackets, Jackaroo and Wheel, and Lord Uslt and ,Pink Eose, monopolised the betting. Wheel, Bonecto and Jackaroo we're in charge when they had gone a furlohg, but they all dropped out at the turn, when Pink Eose and Eedsome were, prominent. Is- ' land put in a great run in the straight, but failed to reach Pink Rose (Solferino —Roseland), who waa unlucky to miss a place in the maiden on the previous day. . i . ■ ' _ ■ Waimatoa, Island, and Doucement were taken out of the Flying Handicap. | This left in eight runners, of whom Mountain. March, making her first appearance at the meeting in open company, was sent out a big favourite. She drew a position next the rails, jumped out smartly, and made a gap that her opponents were uriahle to reduce. Triboulet was in hot pursuit all the way, and Bestir and Rose of Athens made the

best showing of the others.. In a field of eleven, Dolly Dillon, on the 'limit mark, carried nearly half the money invested on the Wakatu Trot. Woodland Rose and Progress were prominent at half way, where the favourite was handy. • Dolly Dillon took charge at the distance, and won nicely from Riwaka Belle. Prince Athol did best of the back markers, and Little Pointer, a good second favourite, 1 got'fourth: : > All started for the Stoke Hack Handicap, for apprentice riders, except Paphian and Believe. .Backers went for In the Pink and Doucement. The latter jumped out smartly and led throughout, winning nicely from Missland and Jackaroo in the straight. Demoness met With some interference from Maropa,.but the affair was held to be accidental. _ ■ Counter Attack was the only withdrawal from the Waimea Welter. P«n----1 cess Pat was a slightly better favourite ■ than Ahika. \ Triboulet;began best, and led Bestir and Gold Problem to half way, where Princess Pat was last. The latter improved her position at the home turn, took charge in the straight, and won easily from Cheer Up, with Triboulet dose: up. Princess' Pat was better class than the others.' '
