FOR GOOD ROADS

HOW MOTORISTS CAN HELP.

"If motorists in New Zealand do not havo better roads in i,hc near future, it will be wholly their own, fault," writes Mr. W.- Stuart Wilson in the last issue of the Radiator. "The Government, by recent legislation, has definitely committed itself to the raising of a fund for the improvement of roads used by' motorisU. As this fund will como from the pockets of motorists through the taxes on tires and cars, thoy must be necessarily interested in an economical, equitable expenditure <-i the money. "How is such a method of expenditure to bo ussurcd? The position to-day is that there is a Mow Zealand Good Roads Association, which has its headquarters at Auckland. Unfortunately, this organisation has not branches in other districts. Obviously such a serious dofeot should be removed with all possible speed. Therefore motori6ts of these provinces should bestir themselves immediately in order to have sufficient vqico and influence in the allocation of tho national fund, i The traders through their national executive should form branches and subbranchea throughout tho two Islands. Any citizen or settler of New Zealand', particularly if he is a motorist, should bo able to afford the nominal subsoription-feo of five shillings per annum for such an unquestionably beneficial purpose. It is a small investment for a big dividend." The writor then suggests that the enrolment of members should be undertaken by the local branches of the Traders' Association,
