CANTERBURY GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS

(»I TILEGRAPH.—NIE9S ASSOCIATION.) CHMSTCHURCH, 3rd March. It was reported to-day that the stores and sheds'at Lyttelton were alreadybeing well stocked with wheat. The Government grader is : picking only the best of milling quality; to cover the estimated "export quantity, and millers are left with second choice. As they are resolved not to buy heavily on account of the extra Government charge,of 7£d per bushel., they take only the best of what is left to. their choice. •; The result is thai the market is likely to ba flooded with fowl wheat, which to-day ie selling at 4s 3d to 4s 6d per bushel on trucks at country stations, but will probably soon show a reduction in, value. It is reported that the millers, in reply to their protest, have been informed that the Government does not intend to depart' one iota from the regulations gazetted. The trade in ,oate has been a little slacker this week. The demand is small, and the supply is equal to it. There is no change, in the quotation of 2s 3d to 2s 6d for. Gartens,, and up to 2s 2d for Algerians. The seed market has livened up. Cocksfoot is bringing from 4d to Sd, and,a considerable quantity of machine-dressed has . been disposed of this week. There is a good inquiry .for ryegrass, and several lines have been sold at from 2s 6d to 3«. VA few sales of barley for shipment have been recorded at 3s 9d to 4s for good, quality, f10.b., but there is practically nothing doing in local operations. Owing. to. several inquiries from the north, the market for onions has improved. The weather, however, has militated against 1 large quantities being offered; Round about '£5 per ton is now .being. given for onions at'eountey stations."
