TRENTHAM TRAINING NOTES

The weather at Trentham this morning was favourable for training operations. The outside of the course proper was available, also the tan circuit, which was mostly used.

Among those worked on the grass, Insurrection (A. Reid) pleased by finishing about four lengths ahead of Winning Hit (H. Young) at the end of a mile gallop in. lmin 43soc. Winning Hit is not a good track galloper.

Doucement, alone, ran down from the half-mile post in 50sec.

Egotism (A. Reed) and Vespucci (G. Young) were in the order named at the end of a mile gallop, which took lmin 44sec.

Makere appeared to be going better than Whipping; Boy at the end of six furlongs in lmin IS 2-ssec.

Dainty Step (H. Clout) and Halifax (D. Butler) were in that order at the end of a mile in lmin 43uec—both ridden out.

Lord Desmond (H. Wheeler) and Jackeroo (L. Q. Bufcler) were together at the end of six furlongs in lmin 16 3-ssec. Astinome was better than Roset in coverine a similar journey in lmin 16sec. KilrusTi and La Paloma covered a mile in lmin 4.3 3-ssec.

Farceur finished ahead of Pluto at the end of &' half-mile spurt in 50sec. Deucalion and Ruatara were together at the end of five furlongs in lrain 4 l-ssec.

Sunny Corner, Areg, and Rugby were in that order at the end of five furlongs in lmin ssec.

Gloaming wan the first to work on the tan. He went from the mile to the

half-mile post in 49sec.

Capping Day took 51 2-ssec to cover a similar journey. Purple Spur (W. Kitchener) covered seven furlongs in lmin 33sec.

Solfanello (C. Stevens) and Blackmail fC. Browne) left six furlongs behind in lmin 17sec. Callaghan ran about a mile and aquarter, picking up Password about three furlongs from home. The first named ran nine furlongs in 2min lsec, and the last mile in lmin 47sec. He was ridden by L. G. Butler, who wilL have the mount jn the Cup. Scion, alone, covered six furlongs in lmin 16sec.

Wheatfield and Quest went together, taking lmin 33sec for seven furlongs. Backsheesh was going better than Bonnie Nurse a.t the end of half a mile in 49 4-ssec.

Mountain Peer, alone, sprinted four furlongs in 49sec. ' Stream took 51seo to run half a mile. Printemps, Nursing Sister, and others did half-pace work.

Ma Boughal, Dereulede, The Emperor, and other two-year-olds were exercised on the straight half-mile.

Claude Brown arrived from Auckland yesterday, and rode a number of horses at work this morning. Mockery will arrive from Hawera tonight in charge' of O. M. Carten. She will be ridden by L. Manson in the Ruapehu Handicap.

J. Buchanan, with Baceful, is due to arrive from Auckland to-night. W. Hobbs arrived from the South this morning with Palestrina, other southern arrivals are C. Giesler and P. T. Hogan with four horses each.

The annual meeting of the Manawatu Trotting Club will be held at the Awa-* puni racecourse to-morrow.
