MEAT POOL WILL GO ON
The fact that there.are persistent rumours that the proposed mew pool will not be proceeded with, and that the committee and the Government are looking for an excuse to abandon it, was mentioned in the House of Representatives by Mr. W. D. Lysnar (Gisborne) last night. Mr. Lysnar asked the Prine Minister whether he would. give a definite intimation whether or not the Government to back down, and, if not, whether he would say if legislation to give effect to the conference decision would be introduced this session. He also asked if the Prime Minister could tell the House when the producers who desired to take advantage of the scheme at the earliest opportunity could obtain advances against their meat. To indicate how the statements had been circulated, Mr. Lysnar said that m leading meat firm had cabled out from London at the end of last week to know if they were true. Tho Prime Minister said the statement!! were absolutely incorrect, and had not the slightest foundation in fact. They must have come from some individual to whom the wish was father to the thought. Judging by what had happened since the pool was spoken of —the increase in the price of meat, the reduction in the cold storage in London and the reduction in freights—he thought that the pool had already made itself felt and had done a great deal of goods So far as,the Government- was concerned, the necessary legislation would be brought down this session, and, he hoped, would be passed into law. The financing would be taken in hand as soon as the Government saw its way. Subsequently, Mi\ Massey indicated that he did not think the financing of the pool would involve the Government in the' immediate production of cash. -
