CLAIM AGAINST A JOCKEY
PLEA OF INFANCY SUCCEEDS.

AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day' Mr. Wilson, S.M., delivered judgment for the defendant jockey George Young, in a claim by the Jockeys' 'Association for £41 3s 9d, annual fee and percentage of earnings by riding winners, a plea of infancy being upheld, •he Magistrate held that though defendant was benefited by membership of the association, he could not find that the said membership was necessary"* to defendant for .gaming his livelihood. The" only contracts to which an infant could be held were such contracts as were for necessaries of life, food, clothing, lodging, marriage, and 'apprenticeship of service. Security for appeal was fixed at £15.
