PETONE GASWORKS
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD WITHu HUTT COUNCIL.
The Town Cl«rk, Lower Hutt Borough Council, wrote to the Petone Borough Council last night conveying a resolution pawed *by the Hutt Council to the effect-that an endeavour be made to procure a half share in the Petone gas, worHs, and urging that a conference be held betweer the two councils at an early date, and that the Petone Council be-asked to stipulate at the conference the price at which it is prepared to sell a half share in Petone" gasworks. The Mayor (Mr. M'Ewah) stated that it would be wise to consider the matters in committee.
Councillor Anderson said it would not be possible for the council to fixa price. If they decided to cell half the works they should get experts to value the works and report to each council. ' Councillor Brockelbank believed that whatever decision they arrived, at they would' not_ please everyone. " • •* ' The Mayor said that the whole question would have to be submitted to the ratepayers. \ Councillor^ Anderson, said if they, decided to sell half these works then they could proceed. It was no use quibbling over the matter. If they did not intend to sell it wag useless to hold a conference.
Councillor Hay ,eaid vthey could not decide right away whether they would sell half their work*. There were other matters to be considered.
The i council then decided to go into committee.
On resuming in open council it'was decided to meet the Lower Hutt Borough Council in conference, at Lower( Hutt this evening. . I
