Levjn, f4vQtt»bly. situated on, the main railway routs between Wellington and Palmereton North, has come into prominence of recent years as a favourite stpok •nd shopping centr* for the residents of the Manawatu. It has shown wonderful progress of late year*, and certainly is the most go-ahead township along the line. It has no-v a population of over two "thousand, with closaly-settled residential, and small farming areas adjacent to the borough boundaries. Closer settlement has aided tha town to bo small degree. Many families are making good livings from poultry-fuming awl dairying on areas from 5 to 25 acres, and the annual two days' \ Show that open* at Levin to-morrow will give visitors some indication of the fertility and general character of this fine district. The climate is one of the best in Naw Zealand, and many who have reached the retiring stage have selected Levin as the ideal place whereat to build a nice home, surrounded by a few acres, within eaiy reach of every modern convenience, with which the town is equipped, including a splendid high-pressure water supply, municipal gasworks, Public Library, swimming baths, golf links, and abundance of parks and reserves, all of which are splendidly kept. Within a few miles of the Post Office there is an excellent beach, which as y«t is not as well patronised as it might \be. The chief scenic attractions are the beautiful Ohau River, with its gorgeous bush-clad banks, the.W»iopehu Native Bush Rsaerve, Lakes Horowhenua and Paipitonga. The town is well equipped with educational facilities, and, generally speaking, it is a progreuiv* and well-kept town. - HOEOWHENUA A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. The Show, held under the auspices of the above association, will be opened to-morrow, and will be continued on Thursday, the 19th. A most interesting programme of ring events will be witnessed by those who are able to attend. The . entries in all.sections are redly excellent,-notwithstanding the slump, and, given fine weath'w, there will be a big crowd at Levin. In the cattle classes, one for two dairy cows or heifers \n milk has been added to the dairy section, for which a cup has been presented by Mr. A. L. Williams, of Levin, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals. Mr. R. L. Horn Has also presented a cup for most points in this section, to be competed for under similar conditions. • The purebred Jersey section has received its share of support, as the sum oi £18 18s has been donated by the New Zealand Jersey Council # and the Jersey breeders of the Horowhenua district, for distribution in these classes. In the butter-fat competition, the cup originally presented by ,the .Levin Cooperative Dairy Cq., Ltd., and won outright by Mr. G. Seivers, has been.replaced by a £15 15s cup from the same donors, and is supplemented by money prizes to the extent oi £16 16s, donated by Mr.- G. Seivers and the Kuku, Manakau, and Shannon Dairy Companies. This competition 'has been mode open to both pure and crossbred cows, which, feet has attracted a record entry.
