NEXT SATURDAY'S BIG CARNIVAL.

Present indications are that the carnival of the Lysil Buy Swimming Club, to be held at' Te Anx> Baths on Saturday afternoon, will be1 one of the most successful that have taken place locally for some time past. The programme is most attractive, and, in addition to the usual club events, there are three provincial championship events to be decided—loo yards and U0 yards free style, and 220 yards breastetroke. Paterson, the New Zealand record-holder, for the sprint, 'is said to be in. fine form, and should give a, good account of himself. He will be up against solid opposition in Edwards and Evans, both of whom have been swimming well this season. In the distance, event Rej. HeAly, a champion of former days, will make his reappearance, and he, should prove a worthy opponent of Claridge. The breastetroke event should also prove interestihgr In addition to the championship race 3 there will be a diving competition and novelty events, all of which should ensure a very pleasant afternoon's sport. There should be a, large attendance1 of the pnblic, for the Lyall Bay Club is worthy of support and encouragement. THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association was held last evening, Mr. P. Rundlo presiding. Permission was granted to the Worser Bay Club to hold a carnival on 23rd , January, and the programme was approved. It was decided to hold the race for !he Annette Kellerman longdistance cup on. 10th. F«bruaryk th« course to be from the Pipitea Wharf to Clyde Quay and back. _ '.
