SQUALLY WEATHER

: The weather locally cannot be depended upon at present to remain fine for very long, and sudden changes to rain squalls are not unlikely. A very heavy downpour occurred at about 9 o'clock this morning, but it was only of brief duration, a spell of \varm sunshine following. Similar: conditions have been experienced in other parts of the Dominion. Atmospheric pressure increased in the north during the night, but is still low everywhere. Strong westerly and southerly winds have ruled, and the weather has been unsettled' generally, with rain in many parts of the country. Present indications are for south-west winds, strong to gale at times,' and squally conditions with heavy showers generally, and snow on the nigh levels of the South Island! The barometer ■is likely to rise'everywhere shortly. The measurement of this morning's north'westerly^squall has not yet been made.
