REQUIREMENTS OP THE DISTRICT.

A raeeting- of the Eastern Suburbs League waslield last evening, Mr. A. C. Blake presiding over a full attendance of delegates. Mr. ttacey (hon. organiser - -for the Plunket Home Appeal) was present by invitation, and explained the details covering the special appeal for funds to start a Plunket Home now being made in Wellington. He stated that donations were coming iD freely, and success was assured provided the public gave willingly and promptly. Messrs. D. M'Laren, :Av W. Parton, and R. Leslie Jones spoke upon the wonderful work being performed by the Plunket Society. The hon. organiser mentioned that one gentleman had donated a motor-car. The Chairman expressed the opinion that the league should treat the matter as . the greatest; need of the hour, and on the i motion of Mr. D. M'Laren it was decided to invite Dr. Truby King to give a lantern lecture at the Kelburn Hall at an early date. It was decided to ask Councillor M'Vicar, Miramar, to arrange, for a meeting to be held at Miramar shortly, a.f. which Dr. Truby King will bs asked to give his lantern lecture. It was decided to invite all residents of the Eastern Suburbs to attend the meeting to be held at Kilbirnie.' Delegates reported on various matters recently brought under the notics of the tramway authorities. A letter received from the tramway authorities indicated that on fine days a service would be run via Hataitai (No. 2 route) to Lyall Bay. Change-over tickets, for breaking the journey at Kilbirnie from. No. 2 to No. 3 route, and vice versa, could not be arranged. Blinds for completely erlfclosing sides of car would be useless on account of the treatment the present blinds received from passengers. In the case of new cars the question of. adapting a light metal blind would receive consideration. It was resolved tb set up a sub-com-mittee, consisting of Messrs. Gaudin, Bertram, and Bayfield, to define the boundaries between the variouo diatrict* in the1 Eastern Suburbs. The league decided to tak« up the question of the lack of proper drainage to serve the workers' homes at Miramar, and resolved to write to the City Council asking that better, facilities for a more frequent removal toi nightsoil be. provided,; also that the drainage schema as a whole be more speedily gone on with. The^ attention of the council is to be drawn to the state of Constable-street and Crawford-road. Mr. D. M'Laren reported as to the success attained by the Civic League in its appeal, for funds to provide work for the unemployed. *
