THE TARIFF BILL

DATE OF INTRODUCTION

RESOLUTION WITH FINANCIAL

STATEMENT.

Information as to the Tariff Bill was sought by Mr. T, K. Sidey (Duriedin South) yesterday afternoon. He informed the Prime Minister that to his mind there was no reason why the country should not know when the Bill was to be introduced. He suggested that the Prime Minister should indicate when he proposed to introduce the Bill, and' also whether it was bis intenticn tp put the Bill through this session. '

The Prime Minister replied that the Bill would be introduced and would go through the House this session. -As far as the date was concerned he would ask Mr. Sidey to think back, when he would no doubt remember that "ml almost all cases when a revision was undertaken the necessary documents were brought down and laid on the table along with the Financial Statement. The necessary resolution, he thought, would comedown with the Statement, which was now in course <jf preparation. Allowing for the difference in the date of the opening of the session, lie did not think the State; ment would be any later than usual. Speaking generally, he said he did not intend to waste timef but if they 'were not finished by Christmas they would have to go on afterwards.

It may be explained that the Statement usually appears about the fourth week of the session. ' ■ - '
