ANGLICAN CHURCH

THE LEGAL BOND

SEVERANCE FAVOURED IN SYDNEY

(UNITED tRtSS ASSOCIATION.—COPXRIOHT.) (Reoeived October 8, 10 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

After three days' discussion, the Anglican General Synod passed-the second reading, by 123 votes to 32, of a measure' dealing with the severance of legal connection of the Church in England and Australia. All the bishops voted in its favour. [In Sydney last month a conference of Church of England adherents discussed the question of breaking the legal bond connecting the Church in England and in Australia. It was urged against tho proposal that a change might result in a schism, and "involve doctrinal changes as well ac liturgical and legislative. It might also detrimentally affect the Union of Churches. Bishop Long intimated that he would move in Synod a resolution favouring the change, which simply desired complete self-government in Australia. Dean Talbdt said that such a movement should' emanate from the Churches, and be referred to Synod, and not vice versa. The debate was talked out.
