In the first round of the national tennis singles at Philadelphia, the Australasians competed. Engrahm (Boston] defeated Peach (Australia), 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. Todd (Australia) defeated Gfossbeek, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Hawkes (Australia) defeated Rosenbaum, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. Anderson (Australia) defeated Rice, 1-6, 6-2* 6-4, 6-3. In the second round'— Willis Davis defeated Todd, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Ilawkes defeated Leroy, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Anderson defeated Symington, 6-1, 6-1, 7-5. ' \
