(BT TILIGIIAJB.—PRB4S ASSOCJAtIOH.) ~ NELSON, 10th September. Apart from flashes of brilliancy which piled up th« scores, tha game was fairly even. Vercoe, the combined team's full-back, played a .splendid game, taking the ball on the full excellently, kicking with great judgment and certainty, and collating with deadly effect. The first spell ended with three points each —a penalty goal for combined team, kicked by Cain, andean unconverted* try to thd Springboks. * The Africans opened' the second' spell vigorously. Phillips, accepting a pass from Barclay j found the lime well in the Africans' twenty-five, but T;he Africam, attacking strongly, transferred play into Combined territory, where a fine tackla by Snodgrass averted the danger. Morkel, setting his backs in motion again, fired out to Zeller, who looked dangerous until well tackled by Vercos right on the line. Nelson forwards, working well together, relieved the situation. StTauss broke away, but was collared, amd from ii loose • scrum Michau took a good pass, and dashed over. Morkel failed to convert. A brilliant passing rush, in. which Morkelj Strauss, andi a^Koek took part, ended •in de Kock cutting in cleverly, and passing out to Zeller, who scored between the posts. Morkel converted. The brilliant passing work of the Springboks enabled them to bring the score to 26 points. A feature of the game was th« rapidity with which the African, half-backs started their three-quarber line in motion. The final score was * — Springboks 26 Combined Team 3
