A MILK PROSECUTION FAILS
A charge of selling milk containing <2* per cent, of added water was. preferred against Elizabeth Phillips in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. The defendant, who was represented by Mr. 0.. 0. Mazengarb, and pleaded not guilty, keeps a small shop in Cuba-st. ' Inspector Muggridge, who represented the police, said the shop was visited by Inspector Rawlinson, who took a sample of milk, whioh the Government Analyst later found to oontain ZK per cent, of .added water. , This statement was borne out by the inspector, who said that there were two vessels containing milk, one being in the shop and another at the rear of the shop. The inspector said he ]' had taken a composite sample. i' The defence raised by Mr. Mazengarb ! was that the milk in the earthenware vessel at the back of the shop was not exposed for sale, and the milk in the shop mitjht or might not have been exposed. At any rate, it was unfair to mix the two samples for the purpose of a test. The Magistrate said he would give the defendant the benefit of tho doubt, and would dismiss tho information.
