CLAIMS FOR AN AWARD.

A dispute has been created between the Wellington Butter and Cheese Factory Workers' Union and the various co-opera-tive companies in the district, and the matter has been set down for hearing by the Conciliation Council at Wellington on 23rd September, at 10.30 a.m. The number of parties cited is 120. The union is asking that not more than 60 hours shall be worked in any one week without payment of overtime at the rate of time and a half, and the wages claimed range from £4 to £5 10s per week, according to the number of assistants employed. Among other claims of the union are requests for the provision of housing accommodation. It is desired that those houses allocated to married men shall have at least four rooms, also washhouse and bathroom, and be equipped with hot and cold water service. For those employed from six to eight months it is asked that one week's holiday on full pay be allowed, two weeks to be given to those having over eight months' service. Double time is claimed for work done on, Christmas Day; New Year's Day, Good Friday, the Sovereign's Birthday, and Dominion Day, orelse an extra day to be added to the annual leave. The union is also asking that workers shall be supplied with butter, cheese, milk, dried'milk, andjiuel. The assessors appointed to conduct the union's case before the Conciliation Council are Messrs. W. M'Pherson, W. Downie, and C. Graynrller. '
