ASSAULT ON A MINE MANAGER
MINER SENT TO GAOL.
(II TELEGRAPH.—PRESS UsSOCIATION.) CHRISTOHURCH, This Day. ' A case of interest 'to. the mining industry was heard at Darfield Magistrate's Court, when David M'Queen, a miner, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment for assaulting David Kane, mine manager at Homebush. The evidence showed that after instructions had been given, that all coal placed on the trucks must be free of dirt or slack, the manager was informed that M'Queen's truck contained dirt. M'Queen resented the accusation, and subsequently assaulted the manager. In defence, accused said the manager attacked him with an iron h»r. The Magistrate said he took a very serious view' of the assault, for,.-' apart from the brutality of the act, the mine manager's authority must be upheld. Accused had received no pro- j vocation for the attack.
