MR, P. O'ROURKE ELECTED

SECRETARY.

The'election for the positioned secretary of the Now Zealanu Miners' Moderation, the vacancy having been canned by.tho resignation of Mr. J. Arbuckle, lias resulted in the return of Mr. P. O'Rourke, of the State mine, who was formerly ' president of tho federation. There wero six candidates 'for tho position, Messrs. O'Rourke, W. Baldorstone (Blackball), F.'-.H. Grant (Millerton). 3. O'Brien (Huntly), W. Shanks (Pukemiro), and W. H. Smith (Rotowaro). The ballot was conducted on the preferential voting system, and there were five counts. Messrs. O'Rourko and Baldcrstone were the only two candidatee in tho final count, and the" first-named was elected by 1383 votes to 1276. Mr. J. Glover, of 'Wellington, was returning officer. It is expected that Mr. O'Rourke will take up his duties in the course of a few days.
