STAR BOATING CLUB

•The fifty-fifth annual report of the Star Boating Club, to be presented' at the annual meeting this evening, states that the membership of the club now ■ stands at 364, mad© up of 63 life active, 136 active, 55 life honorary. 46 honorary,, and 64 country members. Thirty-five new members joined the club last year. The report recommends that during the' coming season active senior oarsmen ! should \be detailed to coach the junior crews. At regattas held at Picton (New Year), Wellington, Picton (championship), and Wanganui, the club was represented. At the New Year's Day . Regatta at Picton, the club was successful in winning the Maiden Fours, Maiden Pairs, and Youths' Fours, and obtained a very good; second in the Junior Fours. At Wellington, the club's representatives were successful in obtaining first place in the Youths' Fours. A(j the Wanganui Regatta a light weight maiden crew was entered by the club for the first time for 6ome yea"rs, and, in view of the fact that the crew had' very little time 1 for training, their performance was creditable. Two interclub regattas were held 1 during the season, as well as the usual races on the official opening days at Wellington and Petone. The club ' was successful |in winning events in all these regattas. The first contest for 'the Aggregate Shield, presented to the Wellington Association by Mr. Mothes for, competition among local clubs, was held, and won by tho Wellington Rowing ;Club. The club offers its hearty congratulations to Wellington Rowing Club on its success. On the Monday following the ' Wangamii Regatta, a crew representing the club rowed in an eight-oared race of'> two miles against the Wanganui Rowing j Club, butj were defeated by a length | and a-lialf, after an exciting race. Tho club extends its thanks to the Wanganui Club for 1 its invitation to contest the event, and hopes that a similar competition may be arranged .in the future. The racing plant is reported to be in good' 'condition, and a successful season is anticipated. .
