DUNEDIN, 16th August. The criminal sittings at. the Supreme Court have ' commenced. Tru|: bills were returned, against four accused. The most serious charge is that of the attempted murder of Alfred James Pottinger preferred against Charles Howard Tipping, the offence allegedly occurringl on the oversea, steamer Mahia in May. Francis Pa,ranthorne pleaded guilty to assaulting Henry Sexton and causing bodily harm. He was released on probation for three years, on condition that ho takes out a prohibition" order and pays the costs, £U 7s Id, within a year.
