EXPECTED BIG SALE OF EWES.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram,- dated 13th August, from the High Ccmmissioner for New Zealand, London :—
Meat: Beef market firmer, but mutton and lamb market shows signs of weakness owing to quicker discharge at (locks and to good, supply of Scotcli lamb, which is selling at average price of Is 4d per lb. Quotations are:—New Zealand Mutton: Lightweight, 13th August, BJd; heavyweight, 13th August, 6Jd; ewes. 13th August, sd, 5Jd. New Zealand Lamb: Lightweight, 13th August, Is ljd; heavyweight, 13th August, lid. New Zealand Beef: Best quality ox, this season's: Hinds, 13th Aug., 6d; fores, 13th Aur., 3i!d. Lasfcrseasoii's: Hinds, 13th August, 5Jd; forest 13th August, 3Jd. Argentine chilled: Hinds, 13th August, Hid; fores, 13th August, Sid. . '
Negotiations proceeding for sale by Board of Trade to nominated agent of remaining 225,000' carcases of New Zealand ewes. Will telegraph full-particulars when available.
Hemp: Manila market quiet and steady. "J" grade August-October shipment' aokl £38' 10s per ton. June-August and July-September shipments quoted at same price. . New Zealand market steady, but business restricted on ac< count of high price asked in Dominion. Quotations unchanged. Probable buyers, highpoints, about £36 10s; fair, £34 per ton.
Honey. Improved tone for cheaper kinds. New Zealand market quiet, and nominally un.changed.
