GIL FUEL IN THE NAVY
With thfe view to conserving the more fluid descriptions of .oil-fuel and those which do not increase greatly in viscosity under conditions of prolonged storage, an important Admiralty order has. been issued. It has been decided that a' mixture of 50 per cent. Persian and 50 per cent. Mexican oil-fuel is to', be issued to the, fleet during the summer months whenever such kinds of fuel are available. The mixture, it is stated, will have priority in supply over all othei mixtures during the period Ist April to 30th September, except in the case of supplies for use in Diesel'or semi-Diesel engines, or to vessels proceeding, to an area where sea temperatures of 50deg. F., or below, are likely to be encounteredj. or.to .battleships .and .battle-cruisers which burn Mexican fuel unmixed so far as heating coils admit. The PersianMexican mixture is to be utilised before any other stocks on board ship. Any quantity remaining on board vessels due to pass into the Reserve Fleet is ;to be returned to store before the ships pass into reserve. ■ .. ' • , ■
