GRADE COMPETITONS CLOSED.

A meeting of the Management Committee of .the, Wellington Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr. J. Prendeville being in the chair. Others present were:—Messrs. W. f J. Hard-ham, E. Perry, W. W. Cook, E. H. Ward, H. C. Buck, H. M'Leod, G. I<\ Jackson, J.'-N. Millard* and F. J. M'Comisky (secretary).

The Wellington. Primary Schools Rugby Union, which is sending- a team to compete in a tournament at Wanga■nui, applied for a grant of £10 towards the expense of the tour. The request was granted, the chairman remarking: "We realise that this is.one of the best of causes." ;

A referee of a fourth grade match reported having had occasion' to warn two j>layers for having become abusive in. objecting to his rulings. It was decided thai the players should appear before the committee.

A letter received from Mr. j. Lynskey, through the New Zealand Union, stated that he was bringing down two teams to play the Petone boys during the week commencing 29th August, and desired that the third match be played as a curtain-raiser at the Athletic Park. Rangitikei, at Marton, 20th August; Wellington^. Wanganui, at Wanganui, 24th August. /

The Manawatu Rugby Union notified that it would accept a visit from a Wellington third grade representative team to' play Manawatu juniors at Palmerston North on'the 27th August. The third-grade committee is to be instructed to get the team ready and to. appoint a manager.

Owing to rearrangement of representative and Springbok matches it was found impossible to fit in a fixture with South Auckland, at Hamilton, during tlhe .Wellington A team's northern tour. ,

'-, The sixth grade competition was closed, and Wellington College A, with a lead of, two points from Petone, were awarded the championship. Petone were declared winners of the fifth class championship. The seventh grade competition was also closed, and the championship awarded to Poneke.
