DISPUTE ABOUT A COSTUME
A olaim for the value of a costume was the subject of a. civil aot-ion heard before Mr. B. Page, S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court, to-day. Winifred Baggstrom, of Taita) for whom Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared, proceeding against Charles A. Hettend, dyer and cleaner, who was represented by Mr. A. M. Salek, for the sum of £19 10s 6d. On 29th June, plaintiff loft with defendant one skirt, to be. cleaned and pressed, and to be returned on Ist July. Plaintiff failed to return the skirt and declined to pay the value of it. Without the skirt the costume, of whioh it forms part, was of no use. The coat and ekirfc cos 1- £19 10s 6d, and plaintiff claimed for this araount. It was stated for the dcfenoe that the garment ,had been stolen and that therefore there was no legal liability. After hearing evidence, Mr. Page held that the defendant had not taken reasonable care of the goods, and he gave judgment for plaintiff for £8 and costs. ' ft
